Best plunge bras in the UK

By the buychecked team · Updated 9 October 2026 · Prices refresh daily from the retailer feed

A plunge bra has a low centre gore, the small piece between the cups, and cups that angle inwards to form a V. That lets it sit hidden under V-necks and wrap tops while bringing the bust closer together. How low the plunge goes and whether the cups are padded make a big difference to how it looks and fits, so it pays to know what you want before you buy.

For most people the Panache 365 Plunge is a good place to start: lightly padded cups, a bonded neckline and underarm for a smooth finish, and multiway straps. If you want the deepest neckline, the Scantilly Voltage is a non-padded superplunge built for fuller busts. If you would rather avoid wires altogether, the Chantelle Soft Stretch Power Plunge gets its support from an elastic underband instead.

Below are seven plunge bras across budget, mid-range and premium price bands, with advice on padding, depth of plunge and fit. Many of these listings show only one or two sizes at a time, so check your size is in stock before you decide.

How we chose

We have not tried these bras on or tested them in person. We shortlisted them by comparing the published specifications, construction details, materials, size availability, price and the retailer's own product information across all the plunge bras we list, then picked the ones that offer something distinct for a particular type of shopper. We relied on the product descriptions for padding and construction rather than the retailer's feature tags, which are not always accurate in this category. Where the data is thin or inconsistent, we say so and tell you what to check.

1. Best overall

Panache 365 Plunge Bra - Black

Panache 365 Plunge Bra - Black

£33.60 at Belle Lingerie · best for an everyday plunge under most tops

The Panache 365 Plunge is a sensible everyday choice because it balances shape with a clean finish. The cups are lightly padded, enough to give a smooth rounded line without adding much size, and the neckline and underarm are bonded rather than stitched, so there are fewer edges to show through fitted tops. The straps are adjustable and multiway, which gives you some flexibility with different necklines. Panache makes it with recycled yarns, and matching briefs are available in the 365 range. Panache is known for D cup and above sizing, and the current listing is a 28E. It sits in the mid-range price band.

✓ Pros

  • Lightly padded for shape without much bulk
  • Bonded neckline and underarm for a smooth finish
  • Adjustable multiway straps
  • Made with recycled yarns

✕ Cons

  • Minimal design, with no lace or decorative detail
  • Limited size choice currently listed

2. Best deep plunge

Scantilly Curvy Kate Voltage Deep Plunge Bra - Black

Scantilly Curvy Kate Voltage Deep Plunge Bra - Black

£19.95 at Belle Lingerie · best for very low-cut dresses and tops

If your main problem is a bra showing at the bottom of a deep V, the Scantilly Voltage is designed for it. The retailer describes a superplunge cut for daring necklines, and the cups are non-padded, so the lift comes from the cup shape rather than foam. Scantilly is Curvy Kate's lingerie line for fuller busts, and the description says this bra is built to support them. Zig-zag embroidery runs across the cups and there is rose gold hardware at the centre, so it is as much a statement piece as a practical one. It sits in the budget price band, and the current listing is a 32F.

✓ Pros

  • Superplunge cut for the lowest necklines
  • Non-padded cups for a natural shape
  • Designed with fuller busts in mind
  • Budget price band

✕ Cons

  • Embroidery and hardware may show under thin fabric
  • Single size currently listed

3. Best for larger cup sizes

Elomi Nerina Underwired Plunge Bra - Cornflower

Elomi Nerina Underwired Plunge Bra - Cornflower

£28.95 at Belle Lingerie · best for G cups and above wanting an unpadded plunge

Elomi makes bras specifically for fuller figures, and the Nerina is based on its Lucie style. The cups are non-padded and underwired, with a lower-cut neckline that suits V-necks without going to a full superplunge. Smooth opaque bottom cups give a clean line while stretch lace upper cups adapt a little to your shape. The back is where it differs from most plunge bras: a double-layer wing with encased elastics is designed to reduce side rolls, and a tall chimney back adds smoothing. The current listing is a 36JJ, and it sits in the budget to mid-range price band.

✓ Pros

  • Non-padded underwired cups for fuller busts
  • Double-layer wing and encased elastics to reduce side rolls
  • Tall back for extra smoothing
  • Stretch lace upper cups give some flexibility in fit

✕ Cons

  • A lower neckline rather than a deep plunge
  • Single size currently listed

4. Best padded option for D+ cups

Gossard Vintage Romance Padded Plunge Bra - Soft Pink

Gossard Vintage Romance Padded Plunge Bra - Soft Pink

£19.20 at Belle Lingerie · best for a boost in smaller cups and less padding in larger ones

The Gossard Vintage Romance shares its cup shape with Gossard's Superboost Lace bra, and it handles padding more thoughtfully than most. In A to D cups the pads are removable, so you can choose how much boost you want. In DD to G cups there is less padding built in, which matters because heavy padding in a fuller cup adds size you probably do not need. The cups are underwired with Chantilly-style lace, stretch lace trim and satin buttons at the centre. It is one of the lower-priced bras here and matching pieces are available. The current listing is a 30G.

✓ Pros

  • Removable pads in A to D cups
  • Reduced padding in DD to G cups
  • Budget price band
  • Matching lingerie available

✕ Cons

  • Lace and buttons may show under smooth tops
  • Limited size choice listed at the moment

5. Best wire-free

Chantelle Soft Stretch Power Plunge Wireless Bra - Black

Chantelle Soft Stretch Power Plunge Wireless Bra - Black

£57.00 at Belle Lingerie · best for all-day comfort without an underwire

Wire-free plunge bras are less common because the wire usually does a lot of the work at the centre. Chantelle's Soft Stretch Power plunge replaces it with an elastic band under the bust for support, and padded cups help keep the shape. The fabric is made with double-layer air bonding, which the retailer says smooths the silhouette and stays invisible under clothes. Straps are adjustable with a hook-and-eye closure. It is in the mid-range to premium price band. Note that the current listing uses a clothing-style size (14) rather than a band and cup size, so check Chantelle's size chart before ordering.

✓ Pros

  • No underwire
  • Elastic underband for support
  • Air-bonded fabric for a smooth finish under clothes

✕ Cons

  • Wire-free plunges usually give less lift and separation
  • Sized by clothing size, so fit is less precise than band and cup sizing
  • Only one size currently listed

6. Best budget

Pour Moi Mixology Padded Plunge Bra - Black

Pour Moi Mixology Padded Plunge Bra - Black

£17.95 at Belle Lingerie · best for a low-cost padded plunge for smaller cups

Pour Moi's Mixology padded plunge is one of the lowest-priced bras in our plunge range. The cups are padded and underwired to lift and shape, and although they are covered in lace with scalloped edges, the retailer says the cups are opaque. A small charm sits at the centre and matching lingerie is available. It is a straightforward way to try a padded plunge without spending much, particularly if you are in a smaller cup size and want a bit of extra shape. The current listing is a 32B.

✓ Pros

  • Lowest price band in this list
  • Padded underwired cups for lift
  • Opaque cups despite the lace look

✕ Cons

  • Scalloped lace edges may show under fitted tops
  • Single size currently listed

What makes a bra a plunge

The defining feature is a low centre gore. On a standard full cup or balcony bra the gore sits fairly high on the breastbone. On a plunge it is shorter, and the cups are cut on an angle so the neckline forms a V. That brings the breasts closer together and lets the bra stay hidden under lower necklines.

How low it goes varies. A 'lower-cut' or 'demi' plunge, like the Elomi Nerina, only drops a little. A superplunge, like the Scantilly Voltage, is designed for very deep necklines. If you mostly wear crew necks and T-shirts, you do not need an extreme plunge, and a moderate one will usually feel more secure.

Padded or unpadded?

Padded plunge bras use foam to add shape and cleavage and to hide the nipple under thin fabrics. They work well in smaller cup sizes and for a smooth T-shirt look. The Panache 365 is lightly padded, while the Pour Moi Mixology and Chantelle Glaze are padded.

Unpadded plunge bras rely on the cut and seaming of the cup for lift. They are often a better choice for fuller busts, because padding adds volume you may not want and can make a large cup feel bulky. The Gossard Vintage Romance splits the difference by reducing the padding in its larger sizes. A note of caution: some retailer feature tags in this category say 'padded' when the description says otherwise, or the other way round. Trust the description and the photos.

Plunge bras for fuller busts

A plunge can work very well on a fuller bust, because the low centre gore tends to sit flatter against the breastbone where a high gore might stand away. Look for underwired, non-padded cups, a firm band and strong wings. Brands such as Elomi, Scantilly, Curvy Kate and Panache design specifically for D cups and above.

The Elomi Nerina is a good example of the features to look for, with a double-layer wing and tall back to stop the band digging in and to smooth the sides. If you need a deep neckline in a fuller cup, the Scantilly Voltage is designed for exactly that.

Checking the fit

The centre gore should sit flat against your breastbone. If it lifts away, the cups are probably too small. The band should feel snug and level all the way round on the loosest hook when new, as it does most of the supporting. If it rides up at the back, try a smaller band and a larger cup.

Plunge cups are cut lower at the centre, so some people find they need to scoop the breast tissue in from the sides when putting one on to avoid spilling at the top. Size availability is the other thing to watch. Many of these listings show only one or two sizes at a time, so check yours is in stock and keep an eye on the returns policy.

FAQs

What is the difference between a plunge and a push-up bra?

A plunge bra has a low centre gore and angled cups for a V-shaped neckline. A push-up bra has extra padding, usually at the bottom and sides of the cup, to push the bust up and in. Many push-up bras are also plunge bras, but a plunge does not have to be padded at all.

Are plunge bras good for large busts?

They can be. A low centre gore often sits flatter on a fuller bust than a high one. Choose underwired, non-padded cups with a strong band and wings, from brands that design for fuller busts, such as the Elomi Nerina or Scantilly Voltage.

Can you get a plunge bra without an underwire?

Yes, though they are less common. The Chantelle Soft Stretch Power Plunge uses an elastic band under the bust instead of a wire. Expect less lift and separation than an underwired plunge, but more comfort for long days.

Why does my plunge bra gape at the top?

Gaping usually means the cup is too big or the shape does not suit you. Plunge cups are cut lower, so if you have less fullness at the top of the breast, a padded or moulded plunge may sit better than an unpadded one. Also check the straps are adjusted properly.

What should I wear under a deep V-neck dress?

A superplunge bra with a very low centre gore, such as the Scantilly Voltage, is designed for deep necklines. If the dress is also backless or strapless, look at a strapless superplunge or a multiway bra instead.
